ED510 Journey - Final Reflection: Group Project Experience

Final Reflection: Group Project Experience

Group projects are rarely easy, and coordinating four individuals—each with different schedules, responsibilities, and communication styles—can be challenging even under ideal circumstances. This project was no exception. However, it provided valuable insight into collaboration, leadership, and the realities of working in a team-based environment.

From the beginning, I naturally stepped into the role of facilitator. I initiated communication early, sending messages to the group on March 29 and April 1 to begin organizing our efforts. While there were a few responses early on, consistent communication proved difficult. Coordinating a meeting was challenging, and progress was slow at first.

Complicating matters further, I experienced a personal setback when I became ill and was in the hospital on the day of our originally scheduled meeting. I communicated this with the group, and everyone responded supportively. Once I recovered, I followed up again on April 11 to regain momentum and move the project forward.

At that point, we regrouped and began making real progress. Moses had already created a PowerPoint, which became the foundation for our final product. As a team, we decided to divide the five required questions among us, with each member responsible for one portion and a shared contribution to the final discussion question. I took responsibility for organizing the presentation, editing slides, and compiling the final version.

We met via Zoom to record the presentation. Our first attempt ran significantly over the time limit, becoming more conversational and less structured than intended. After regrouping, we refined our approach, tightened our scripts, and successfully recorded a second version that met the expectations more effectively.

While the technology presented some challenges, we adapted and completed the task. More importantly, every member of the group contributed in some capacity. As is common in group work, some individuals carried more of the workload than others, but overall participation was present across the team.

One of the most valuable aspects of this project was the opportunity to connect with classmates in a more personal and collaborative way. In an online learning environment, those interactions are often limited, so working together and having real conversations added meaningful value to the experience. It was also reassuring to hear that others faced similar challenges, reinforcing that these obstacles are a normal part of group work.

Overall, this project was a positive experience. It reinforced the importance of communication, flexibility, and leadership in collaborative settings. While not without its difficulties, it was rewarding to see the final product come together and to work alongside others toward a common goal.
