ED510 Journey: Week 1

 Week 1:

As I begin ED510: Technology for Teaching and Training, this blog serves as a place to document my learning as it happens. My main goal is to intentionally engage with the technologies introduced in this course and explore how they can be meaningfully incorporated into my classroom and instructional practices. Rather than approaching this course passively, I am taking a carpe diem mindset—being present, curious, and intentional about fully experiencing what each lesson, tool, and project has to offer.

Throughout this term, I will use this blog to reflect on both the positives and challenges I encounter along the way. I plan to highlight tools and strategies that feel effective and applicable, while also being honest about those that are difficult, less intuitive, or less useful in my specific teaching context. An important part of my process will be comparing and contrasting different technologies, considering alternatives when appropriate, and evaluating how each tool supports—or fails to support—learning in a career and technical education environment.

The primary audience for this blog is my instructor, as this is a required component of the course. That said, blogging itself is a new experience for me. I tend to be more of a doer than a recorder, so engaging in reflective writing in this format pushes me outside of my comfort zone. However, as I progress through the course, I anticipate this blog becoming a practical resource beyond ED510. As a department chair, I see value in using these reflections to later share instructional technologies and ideas with fellow faculty—demonstrating not only what the tools can do, but how they function in real instructional settings.

Ultimately, this blog represents an ongoing record of growth. It is not just about learning new technologies, but about thoughtfully evaluating them, experimenting with their use, and considering how they can enhance teaching and training in meaningful ways throughout this term.
