For this assignment, The tool explored for the exercise is SignUpGenius, a digital scheduling and sign-up tool designed to help organize shared resources, events, and time-based activities. Key features include customizable sign-up slots, automated email reminders, and easy access through mobile devices or computers without requiring participants to create an account.
One feature that could help me personally stay organized is the ability to replace traditional pen-and-paper sign-up sheets with a centralized digital system. In the lab, this type of tool would manage access to equipment that often creates bottlenecks; students will be able to reserve specific time slots — not just day, but actual hours within the day — in advance. If sign-up availability were to be displayed on screens throughout the lab, then more transparency would be achieved as well with less confusion.
SignUpGenius can also embody the flexibility and multiple means of learner/worker support in its application through Universal Design for Learning. Since access to sign-ups is available in multiple ways, choosing times that fit the schedule of users, and reminders set automatically barriers will be removed for participation. Other than instructional use, this platform can be used for advisory committee meetings, faculty meetings, and events as a clear accessible way to coordinate participation and scheduling.
